Kurt Owen:

Kurt is a high threat protection lead, and lead instructor at ESS Global. He is also
an executive protection agent and combat/executive protection instructor currently
training some of the world’s largest ministries in security and executive protection.

John Riley

John served seven years in the Army as an infantryman before becoming a police
officer. He retired from the Grand Rapids, Michigan police department in 2015.
He now travels to train others to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and
de-escalation techniques to deal with a loud angry person and prevent a stressful
situation from becoming a dangerous critical incident.

Ed is a retired Army Lt. Col. and Battalion Commander, with 24 years on
active duty in the US, Europe, and Iraq. He now serves as a part time police
officer and has been researching, writing, and providing training on the
active shooter threat for over 15 years.

Greg Stevens
Retired, Garland TX Police Department


Greg Stevens is a recently retired 40-year veteran of the Garland Police
Department (TX). During his career, he received numerous commendations. In
2016, Officer Stevens was invited to the White House, where he was awarded the
Law Enforcement Medal of Valor by President Barack Obama, for his actions
ending the first ISIS Attack on U.S. soil.


At the 2024 Michigan Church Security Conference, Greg will be presenting “When
the Moment Chose Me: A Training Mindset.”

the attack and what it took to not only survive, but also prevail against all odds.
